Hello folks! This February, the OtaKai Figure Society will be having it’s first art challenge:

The Yarui Fan Art and Honey Badger Challenge!

For this challenge, we invite all members to create a fan art of OtaKai’s mascot Yarui or a fan art of Yarui with the viciously awesome Honey Badger!

Here are some art samples that you may refer to:

Rules:

1. Format
Images can be traditional (manually drawn & scanned) or digital (digital drawing using any software).

2. Copyright
The images must be drawn by the member himself whether by traditional or digital media.
Please don’t include a watermark on your image.
You cannot submit an image created by another person. By submitting your entry, you guarantee that you are the original and legal owner of the image.

3. Number of Entries
You can submit one entry per category in order to increase the chances of winning.However, you can only win once for the whole contest.

4. Subject Restrictions
Depict Yarui and Honey Badger anyway you want given that they abide by the following restrictions:
a. Subject/s must be appropriate for all ages (please do consider our underage members).
b. No nude depictions of Yarui, but depictions in swimsuits are allowed given that they are still wholesome to look at.
c. No lewd or suggestive poses for either Yarui or Honey Badger.
d. Photos must center around yarui and/or the Yarui-Honey badger tandem
e. Text may also be added to the image but usage of foul language is prohibited.

5. Image Rights
By submitting your entries, The creator hereby grants Otakai, exclusive rights to the image. The creator agrees to have their photos be used by Otakai on the forum without any fee or compensation. The creator’s real name/ or handle name will also be be included wherever the image is displayed.

Site Maintenance Finished

The scheduled site maintenance is now finished and you can go back to your regular schedule of posting.

Some features have been temporarily disabled to expedite the process of a more secure system.

Please also remember that since we upgraded the system, some features may still be the same, but they may have changed positions. We don’t have the ability to move things around as this is in the core code of the system. It may take a bit of getting used to, but this is worth it.

Technical Details:

updated SMF from 1.1.4 to 2.0
used a different theme that will work with the new system version
disabled some features for the meantime

Enabling the said features will take place later this month, once your resident web monkey has more time (hopefully).

If you feel your account has been affected and cannot log in, kindly contact us using the “for layout and technical concerns” form.

UPDATE:

All registrations are now subject for approval, to make sure incoming registrations are not spam accounts. It’s not fool-proof, but it’s the only way to keep spammers at bay. For new registrations, please check your email if your registration has been approved so you can activate your account.

In view of the recent events where the name and image of the OtaKai seems to have been compromised, the administrators of this community would like to clarify that as a community, OtaKai is NOT, in any way, directly involved in the issue and is not taking sides. Further, we would like to clarify that this is a personal dispute between individual parties who happen to be members. That said, any actions, attitudes of these individual parties should not be taken as a reflection of the community as a whole, or the rest of its members.

We are currently in discussion with all the parties involved and still investigating the matter. For the meantime, should you encounter instances where OtaKai’s name seems to have been used in a manner that runs counter to this official statement, please contact the Sakura Committee so they can deal with the issue quickly, objectively, and under set rules of this community.

Hello everyone,

Otakai Figure Society has been able to hold 4 successful figure displays (Ozine 2009, AOF 2009, Ozine 2010, and Toycon 2010) in the past two years, and we look forward in joining the Philippine anime community in its future endeavors.

We would like to thank the committee heads and the members who have steadfastly given their time, resources, and their figures for the benefit of OtaKai. Such volunteerism is unheard of outside the realms of OtaKai.

For everyone’s information, OtaKai Figure Society, the Sakura Committee, the moderators and its members do not and will never charge any organization/group when it is invited to hold figure displays in events.

Expenses like;

transportation costs,
food costs,
promotion,
giveaways,
materials,
and miscellaneous costs associated in conducting a display comes from it’s own member’s wallets. No coercion is done. everything is done out of charity and volunteerism of its members.

As such, OtaKai Figure Society tries its best to protect its members from being abused and to level the field between OtaKai and the inviting organization. It has tried to negotiate privileges like free tickets, nice display area, and food/drinks for its display volunteers/members. Sometimes we are granted these requests and sometimes, we are not. Yet, as a testament to the quality of its members, all displays have been successful and has helped OtaKai grow to what it is today.

We, the Sakura Committee, have found the need to protect its members after careful evaluation of past display activities.

We would like to make sure that the privileges agreed upon by OtaKai and the inviting organization/group BEFORE the activity is held would be upheld DURING and AFTER the the activity.

For this to happen, effective today, July 26, 2010. All organizations/groups interested in inviting Otakai to conduct figure displays during their convention/activity must coordinate with the Sakura Committee directly (either YM, pm, or telephone).

Depending on the convention/activity, the Sakura Committee will negotiate privileges for its members with the organization/group.

When the details are agreed upon, the organization/group shall draft a contract that includes all the details of the agreement.
This will be signed both by the Committee Head or Sakura Committee member and the organization/group who is in-charge of the activity before the scheduled event.
OtaKai Figure Society shall have a copy of this contract posted in its forum, viewable by all moderators and committee members of said event.
Each side should have a copy of this contract.
If any detail of the contract is not upheld by the organization/group, the contract is voided.
To protect its members and reputation, OtaKai Figure Society reserves the right to excuse itself from the event and to defend itself publicly, using the voided contract.

Scheduled Maintenance, July 23 - 24 2010

UPDATE! We are moving the scheduled maintenance a day earlier as a safety precaution. We saw a drastic increase in server bandwidth as the days wear on, so we’re moving early.

The forums will be down for a scheduled maintenance this coming weekend— July 23 and 24. This is due to the planned move to a better and well-equipped server.

We hopefully get it done come evening of July 24.

A New Beginning

As some of you know, our forums at IPBFree has been accessible for a few days now, and no word yet on whether it’ll be up anytime soon.

No warning bell has been given, no announcements, no official word on anything from the owners of the site. Their domain looks to be already reclaimed by the domain registrar, and their official Facebook and Twitter pages are gone. All the messageboards hosted on IPBfree, not just ours, are lost in cyberspace. And no idea if we will ever get it back— One of the consequences of ‘free’ hosting.

With no light in sight, we had to make a quick turn to a new direction: We are going forward with the plan on getting our own hosting service and domain to house our forums. The community is steadily growing anyway, and this way we will have full control of our own content and space.

We have already set-up the new forums at http://otakai.code-jutsu.com/ and this will be the link we have until we get our own domain name. READ: This is already considered the new forums, so register and post away! Recreate topics or post new ones! Help in rebuilding our new home!

We will soon announce how you can help with the rebuild and move. Via the Admin Blog in Tumblr, via the Official Facebook Page, and even the forums. So please stay-tuned.
